PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING TOOL
Single-phase current calculator
Find steady-state current from electrical kW, apparent kVA or mechanical output, with each rating basis kept explicit.
Inputs
Calculation steps
I = electrical input / (V × PF)
I = 5000.000 / (230.000 × 0.900)
Formula ID: POWER_SINGLE_PHASE_KW_V2
Voltage factor: 230.000 V
Assumptions and references
Single-phase steady-state AC relationship. The voltage is across the load terminals. For kVA input, power factor changes the separate kW estimate but does not change current. Starting, harmonics and unbalanced three-phase operation are outside this tool.
UNDERSTAND THE TOOL
What this calculator does
Estimate steady-state current through one single-phase load from its stated electrical input, apparent power or mechanical output rating.
How to use it
- Select whether the available rating is kW, kVA or horsepower.
- Enter the voltage across the load terminals.
- For kW or horsepower, identify the rating basis, power factor and any required efficiency.
- Review the substituted formula and current before checking the circuit separately.
Fields and meanings
- Rating supplied
- kW is active power, kVA is apparent power and horsepower normally describes shaft output.
- Load voltage
- Voltage across this single-phase load, whether line-to-neutral or line-to-line.
- Power factor
- Used for active-power current and the kW estimate from kVA; it does not change kVA-derived current.
- Efficiency
- Used only when a mechanical output rating needs conversion to electrical input.
Review required. Steady-state current is not motor starting current or a circuit rating. Check equipment information and installation conditions separately.
