PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING TOOL

Line and phase voltage & current calculator

Convert balanced star/delta line and winding quantities. A phase winding is not always connected to neutral.

Inputs

L1L2L3Star point(not earth)
Conceptual connection diagram, not wiring instructions. Phase means one load branch; no neutral is implied for delta.
Calculation steps

Vphase = 415 ÷ √3 = 239.6003617136947

Formula ID: LINE_PHASE_BALANCED_V1

Assumptions and references

Balanced sinusoidal steady state. In star: Vline = √3 × Vphase and Iline = Iphase. In delta: Vline = Vphase and Iline = √3 × Iphase. Neutral voltage is defined only where a neutral exists.

UNDERSTAND THE TOOL

What this calculator does

Translate between supply line quantities and individual load-branch quantities in a balanced sinusoidal system.

How to use it

  1. Choose star or delta from known equipment information.
  2. Choose voltage or current and conversion direction.
  3. Enter the known magnitude.
  4. Review the result, connection diagram and balanced-system limitation.

Fields and meanings

Connection
Star or delta load arrangement; this tool does not select a motor connection.
Quantity
Voltage in volts or current in amperes.
Direction
Convert a line magnitude to phase magnitude, or reverse.
Known value
A finite nonnegative RMS magnitude for the selected quantity.
Review required. Phase voltage means voltage across a load branch. Delta does not imply a neutral. Starting, unbalance and harmonics are outside this model.
