PRELIMINARY ENGINEERING TOOL

Voltage-drop calculator

Estimate receiving voltage with your selected cable data and design target.

Inputs

Calculation steps

ΔV = 1.732 × 25 × 0.045 × (0.72700 × 0.8 + 0.08 × 0.60000) / 1

Formula ID: VDROP_THREE_PHASE_RX_V1

One-way route length: 45 m.

Assumptions and references

Preliminary calculation only. Verify inputs, manufacturer data, applicable standards, fault levels, and local requirements before construction or procurement.

UNDERSTAND THE TOOL

What this calculator does

Voltage drop is the reduction in voltage between source and load caused by current flowing through conductor impedance. This calculator exposes its selected method and uses the route length you provide.

How to use it

  1. Choose the system and the data method that you can substantiate.
  2. Enter one-way route length, current, voltage and power factor where applicable.
  3. Enter custom resistance/reactance or mV/A/m data, or use the clearly labelled simplified resistivity mode.
  4. Review percentage drop, estimated end voltage, losses and warnings.

Fields and meanings

One-way route length
Physical source-to-load route; the method applies any required path treatment once.
Current
The expected operating current for the assessment.
R / X or mV/A/m
Custom conductor values used by the selected method.
Parallel runs
Number of equal parallel paths; verify the installation is appropriate before relying on it.
Target drop
A user-selected design target, not an automatic code limit.
Review required. Use traceable conductor data at the relevant temperature and installation condition.
